Logo A = New current French production.
This logo is larger and very clean with no over lapping of the C
and P. The letters touch, but do not cross or overlap. Used from
the late 1990's until present day. Although there are some nice
pipes produced with the modern "clear" CP logo, this is pure
French production and not as desirable by Charatan Collectors.
Logo B = Transition English Production,
Post Lane Limited Era. The stamp used for this period was
either a replacement stamp from the original one, made a bit
clearer, or an attempt to duplicate the original with an over
lapping C and P. Slightly larger letters than the original and
clearer CP letters. Used from 1989 until the mid-late 1990's.
Produced at the St Andrews Road Dunhill operation while still in
operation, after that in England at Dunhill controlled makers.
Logo C = Original English Production,
Lane Era. CP pipes that have the original English production
logo many times will have the Lane " L " circled stamp on the shank
and if you are lucky will include the "Made in the City of
London" stamp which stopped being used in 1981-82. The logo is
smaller and compressed with the letters C and P almost looking
like an O with an "I" through it, slightly offset to the right.
The C and P are compressed with the C almost forming a closed
loop to the P. Today, this is the most desirable Charatan logo
that dates the pipes to pure English, Lane Era production. and
before. Used until 1988 while Lane Limited distributed Charatan
Pipes in the USA.
NOTE: Logo B & C
can sometimes be interchanged as the stamp die wore with usage,
and I'm fairly sure there was more than just 1 "cp" stamp. We
have examined older pieces, Lane era and before, that appear to
have a "B" style stamp, however none of the English produced
Charatan pipes used the "A -type" (French) clear, large and open
stamp. |
