John Seiler has collected and smoked
pipes for the past 40 years. His pipe collection interests are varied
focusing on obtaining at least one pipe from each high grade manufacturer
and/or carver. The collection minor is in hawkbill shaped pipes of
which there are currently 20. McClelland 5100 is his normal everyday
choice of pipe tobacco, and he prefers mature virginia tobaccos. His stash
of over 400 tins of tobacco tend more to the virginia type tobaccos.
The Emperor Leopaldo series of short stories were
written to fill the void of pipe "literature" where one could pick up a
story and actually see pipes, tobacco, and pipe collecting mentioned.
A secondary purpose is to provide informational tidbits for the new and
long-time pipe smoker.
In the real world, John is professional engineer
working in the area of mining safety and health. He lives with his
wife, Chris, their dog, Roxy, and their two cats, widget and spot in
Pittsburgh, PA. He can usually be found on the #pipes channel in
the evening using the "Pipester" nick and usually attends the NASPC and
CORPS pipe shows. Other interests include books (collections of
J.R.R.Tolkien, Sherlock Holmes, Fu Manchu series, Dune series, and books
by J.P. Lovecraft), mine flame safety lamps, flashlights, and is a
electronic gadget geek.
The Links below will download the stories that make up
the Leopaldo Saga. You can download the entire saga or each individual story.
These stories combine my hobby of pipe smoking, pipe collecting and Science
Fiction. They are in adobe acrobat format (.pdf).
Emperor Leopaldo is the head of a feudalistic society far
in the future where pipe collecting/pipe smoking is not politically incorrect,
rather it is highly esteemed among the aristocracy. The stories were written by
myself, a pipe collector and pipe smoker of over 30 years experience. You will
recognize some of the items, places, themes, and maybe, some of the people. The
names have been changed to protect the guilty. Come, join Leo, Nick, Lu Jo,
Varten and the other characters, and maybe, you will learn something about a
hobby that can yield much enjoyment.
The stories should be read in the order presented, with
"Satisfaction" being the first as the characters and themes build on the
previous story.
